About Me
My Bio…
I began my career in 1990 as a pediatric dietitian at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) specializing in the care of cystic fibrosis patients and their families. After moving with my family to San Diego, I began working at Mercy Hospital (now Scripps Mercy Hospital) as their pediatric dietitian and adult oncology dietitian. This is where I got real-world practice in helping people navigate and overcome illness with nutrition therapy.
Once my second child was born, I decided to change careers and become a stay-at-home mom, eventually moving into the world of homeschooling my children. The 20+ years that followed were a deeply rewarding time of being present with my children. Little did I know that this time was also honing my skills as an educator.
As my hands-on mothering years were coming to a close, I faced two life-altering events: my sister’s cancer diagnosis and my own health struggle with hormonal imbalance. My first move was to dive deeper into my medical background for solutions. But given my sister’s poor prognosis, offered by her oncologist, I relentlessly began researching alternative and holistic therapies. In time, I connected with a nutritionist whose primary treatment was food and food-based supplements. Her knowledge and skilled advice changed the trajectory of my life.
This deep dive into the holistic world lit a fire in me. I renewed my registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) credential, completed the coursework to become a functional medicine practitioner, and became certified as an Institute for Functional Medicine practitioner (IFMCP). In 2018, I opened my own nutrition-based health consulting practice. This work brought wonderful new opportunities to not only help individuals achieve their health goals, but also to sharpen my skills as a health “detective” and educator.
Becoming a grandparent has shifted my personal and professional goals once again. Seeing the rise in chronic disease among our youth and knowing the difficult health environment in which my grandchildren are being raised has given me the impetus to DO something. My heart yearns to equip and empower the next generations with sound nutrition and health education…
EDUCATION that can see them through these formative years and beyond.
